Why I hate adelphia.
Dec. 2nd, 2005 01:30 amNightly, at about 1am, adelphia network engineers let wild monkeys run around in their NOC, testing the robustness of their ethernet and fibre lines, by swinging from them like vines. They're not very robust, according to the monkeys. They are also too weak to be chewed on for any length of time without breaking, says Albert Gomez, a Tamarin monkey who hails originally from the southern tip of the Yucatan.
Tonight especially, I had hoped that the monkeys would stay in their cages at the zoo, skipping their midnight rendezvous with our illustrious Adelphia night staff, because I had set my new gentoo box (cactuar) to update itself overnight. This requires periodic file download from the internet. It's automated, so I can sleep soundly knowing everything is going well, provided no monkeys/swinging/broken cables/etc interrupt the flow of data between cactuar and the university of florida open systems.
( oh well )
