lenox: (uuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccckkkkk)
So I was a happy, excited young man last night! I had no particular reason...but I cleaned the bathroom which was pretty nasty after enough wild parties and vomiting houseguests. I am starting to feel like it's problematic that I haven't thrown up in my own toilet yet. Oh well. I doubt I will get the chance; we move out next month.

Let's see, what else did I do today as a product of happiness....ah! I recorded a new song. I did it 'right' this time, i.e. I made use of Live's main features and stopped treating it like a tape recorder. I recorded in clips, to a ticker track that was playing in my headphones....this allowed me to switch between song parts easily and also create multiple drum beats for each part. Yes! I'm getting much better with drum beats. They still sound kind of spartan but they go along with the song well and there's enough variation to keep the song moving. I've found that keeping the handy 'phase' switch of my guitar active means that it fits into the mix of a whole song much better...and I have to do less EQ work later. Michelle got interested in the synth line i was working on for the song and asked me to teach it to her. I did, and when it came time to record, I just used the synth line she played. So that's cool! As this is a song I am writing as I record it, I'm constantly finding new tracks and sounds I want to lay down. Given live's clip-based style, I can record them in and worry about where I want them to go later. I like that. You know what's funny? I really like using that casiotone 101 that Will left at my house. It was meant to be a bullshit little synth but it's analog. and if you run it through some tubes and play with the modulation, it sounds pretty smooth indeed!

Ok, that was a buch of tech garbage for most of you, and for that I apologize. Don't read it.
